WEEK OF NOVEMBER 28th

Here are some highlights from the week of November 28th...

In the sensory tub was cooked colored spaghetti--a big hit!

Children playing a "popcorn" game to practice and review letter recognition.

Using letter stampers, children practice spelling classmates' names and passwords in playdough.

In the photo below, the child traces the letter "H" and then draws three pictures of things beginning with the /H/ sound.  The child can also label the pictures using his/her sight word knowledge or inventive spelling.

We decorated 3 letters this week....letter "I", with insects, letter "K" with kites and letter "P" with pepperoni pizzas!
In our number writing books, we learned and practiced writing the number 8.
We did Letter Groups this week.  In the photos below, children are isolating and identifying the beginning sounds in words.

We helped Ruth celebrate her November birthday.  Ruth helped her mom read the story, The Other Side of Town.  We then enjoyed eating elf sugar cookies.  Happy Birthday, Ruth!

On Wednesday, Pre-K children enjoyed a "Beach Day" at swimming class.

Be sure to ask your child about the story, Silly Sally...
~Why was the book silly?
~What did Sally do with the pig?  the dog?  the loon? the sheep?
~What is a loon?
~Who is Neddy Buttercup?

We created a graph of the veterans in our families.

We learned a new greeting, "Hello Neighbor" during Morning Meeting.

We have completed our class book, We like colors!  Each child will have the opportunity to bring our class book home to read and share with his/her family.  Support and assist your child in reading our class book with you.  The sentences include some of our previous passwords and are repetitive on each page.  The children can also use the illustrations to help them read the book.
On Friday, we celebrated our 60th day of school!  Robert and his mom helped us celebrate by providing us with marshmallows to make a "zero snowman".  Thank you for a fun activity!

Our cooking activity on Friday was popping popcorn!  We used an actual popcorn popper to observe the popcorn as it popped.

We also explored a corn cob with unpopped popcorn.
This is what the same cob looked like after we popped it in the microwave.
