~SPIRIT DAY~
Since is was Spirit Day, we learned and practiced a "Vikes" cheer.

~NAMES~
Posted on the bulletin board outside of our classroom are each child's photo posted on a viking hat and his/her name covered in dots.

~ACADEMY FAMILY~
Today we met 2 more members of our Academy family.
Mr. Dixon is a security guard at our school.  He helps to keep our school and the people in it safe.

We also met our Head of School, Mrs. Soderberg.  She read us a story called, How To Catch A Star.

~FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
There were many new activities we introduced this week.  Children were able to choose to engage in these activities during Free Choice time.  Here are photos of some of those activities...

Children in the photos below are "punching" their first name, using an oversized thumb tack.  This is a great fine motor activity.

Children pictured below build an alphabet tower using cubes going from largest to smallest.

Children can work on their fine motor control and pencil grip when tracing lines with a dry erase marker.

At the Discovery Station, children can take a closer look at rocks using magnifying glasses.

Ruth works on a mosaic.
In the photos below, children retell the story, The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books, using props.

Robert and Layla use pattern blocks to fill in a triangle tray--a great spatial reasoning activity.

Robert and Calvin build "cameras" using plastic shapes with grooves.

In the photos below, children are working on a size sorting activity.

Heath enjoys working with an object that bends into different figures.  This was a popular activity this week!
Alex uses letter tiles to spell his name as well as his classmates' names.

Ruth exercises her fine motor skills by "pinching" clips on to a board.
~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~

We had some special visitors today at lunch.  Two viking students from the Upper School visited us to teach us some Academy cheers since today was Spirit Day!

Below are photos from our first swimming class in the water.  We were so proud of how brave our youngest Vikes were when they got in the pool today!
 Our AWESOME swim teachers!
