WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 19th

~BIRTHDAY~
Last Friday we helped Lily celebrate her September birthday.  Lily's mom shared a Superman book and we then enjoyed eating fruit kabobs for Lily's birthday treat.  Happy Birthday, Lily!

 ~PASSWORD~
On Monday, we introduced our first "password".  These are "high frequency" words we are using to begin to build a child's sight word knowledge.  The password is posted inside our classroom and on our classroom door.  Each morning, the children have to tell the teacher the password as they enter our classroom.  At the end of the week, the password will be added to our Word Wall.  Each Monday, we will introduce a new password for the week.

~FAMILY~
We have read 2 stories about families, shared our family photos, and discussed that all families are different.  The children decorated a frame for their family photos.  We will display these photos in our classroom so our families are with us--even at school.

 ~SCHOOL FAMILY~
We are also reading and learning about our "school family".  Later this week we will visit the Nurses' Office and meet the nurses.  And, Mrs. Soderberg will come to visit our class and read to us.

EDP~COOKING
On Monday, we had our first Cooking Class and made granola bars.  We discussed what ingredients are; how we use measuring spoons and cups; and how we were going to make the granola bars.  The children enjoyed adding ingredients and then mixing them together.   When they were finished baking, we ate our granola bars for snack.  One child even game them two "thumbs-up"!

 ~LIBRARY BOOKS~
One of the Pre-K students' jobs is to return his/her library book once he/she has brought it back to school.  We have a special basket for collecting returned books.

 ~CLASSROOM RULES~
On Tuesday, we read a story about the importance of rules and how they help us and keep us safe.  We then brainstormed rules that we should follow at school so that we can learn and play safely.  We will continue our discussion about classrooms rules later this week.
 ~EDP--TEACHER'S CHOICE~
On Tuesday, we introduced the children to 3 new activities.  The first one was a problem-solving activity where the group had to determine how to move a hoola-hoop around using only 2 fingers.

The next activity was called "Elbow to Elbow".  Facing a partner, the teacher called out various body parts and the partners "connected" these body parts.  There were lots of giggles during this activity.

Hand-to-Hand
 Head-to-Head
 Back-to-Back
 Pinky-to-Pinky
 Thumb-to-Thumb
 Cheek-to-Cheek
 Elbow-to-Elbow
Our final activity was called, "Bug In A Rug".  One child is chosen to hide his/her eyes away from the group.  The teacher chooses and signals one child to come to the middle of the group to be the bug and covers him/her with a blanket (rug).    The child hiding his/her eyes then returns to the group to try to determine which child is the bug in a rug.
