FANTASTIC FRIDAY 1-20-17

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the new work stations we are doing.
...the story, That is NOT a Good Idea!  by Mo Willems.
the snowman math we did.

~NEW WORK STATIONS~
This week we introduced and started new work stations.

At the Listening Station, children listen to the story, If  you Take A Mouse To The Movies and complete a "response sheet" about the story.

At the Writing Station, children work on a class Winter book that we are making.

At the Fine Motor Station, children do a "punching" activity that creates a snowman.

At the Games Station, children play Memory with snowflake cards.

At the Creation Station, children do a "Roll-A-Snowman" activity.

At Math Magic, children work on 10-frame activities.

Children work on putting pictures in sequential order and then explaining what is happening in each picture.

~STORY TIME~
Today we read a book by one of our favorite authors, Mo Willems.  Be sure to ask your child what happens in this story.

~SNOWMAN MATH~
We did an estimation activity today using the snowman outline pictured below and marshmallows.  Children in one group estimated how many large marshmallows it would take to fill the snowman, while children in another group estimated and used mini-marshmallows to fill their snowman.  It took 21 large marshmallows or 58 mini marshmallows to fill up the snowman.  Each child determined if his/her estimate was more or less than the actual number of marshmallows needed to fill the snowman.  We also discussed why it took more mini marshmallows and less large marshmallows to fill the snowman.

~WE CAN READ~
We had 2 classmates bring in words today to add to our "We Can Read!" notebook.
