THURSDAY 1-4-17 AND FRIDAY 1-5-17

THRILLING THURSDAY
ASK ME ABOUT...
...words that rhyme with snow.
...what I did in P.E.
...our new "Star of the Week"!
...the story, Snow Is Falling.
...what I did in my Math Group.

 ~MORNING MESSAGE~
We did a rhyming activity on Thursday's morning message.  First, the children needed to determine which of the following rhymed with snow--star or bow.  Next, we brainstormed more words that rhyme with snow.  We wrote these words and discovered that rhyming words usually end with the same letters but not always.  Rhyming words always sound the same at the end.

 ~STAR OF THE WEEK~
Lily is the "Star of the Week"!  We learned that Lily's favorite food is pizza and she wants to be a mommy when she grows up.  We enjoyed seeing your photos and learning more about you, Lily!

 ~MATH GROUPS~
The Shark Group worked with Geoboards during today's math group time.  Using a wooden board with 25 pegs and some rubber bands, children created letters and shapes on their geoboards.

During their math group time, the cat group practiced one-to-one correspondence (counting) and matching the amount counted to the correct number.

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Thursday was a "teachers' choice" activity day and we made snow dough.  Children measured and mixed the ingredients.  Next, a teacher cooked the mixture on the stove.  Once the cooked dough was cool, children added glitter to the dough and kneaded it.  Each child brought home his/her own small container of our snow dough.  We also have some snow dough to use at school.  Be sure to ask your child what ingredient we added to the snow dough so that it smells good!

FANTASTIC FRIDAY
ASK ME ABOUT...
...the pattern on the morning message.
...what I learned in Spanish.
...the quilts my classmates shared.
...what I did during "Quiet Time on Quilts".
...the story, The Kindness Quilt.

~MORNING MESSAGE~
Children were asked to continue a pattern that was provided to them on the morning message.  During our morning meeting, we discussed the pattern and identified it as an ABC pattern.

~SPANISH~
In Friday's Spanish class, children learned about Three Kings' Day.  One tradition for this holiday is to provide goodies in a person's shoes that are set outside his/her front door.  When we returned to our classroom following Spanish class, the children discovered a treat in their boots!

~QUIET QUILT DAY~
Quite time on our quilts...

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
We made tortilla snowflakes today for cooking class.  Children folded their tortilla; snipped it in places to create a snowflake; "painted it with butter"; and sprinkled powdered sugar and/or sugar and cinnamon.  We then warmed the tortillas in the oven and ate them for snack.  YUMMY!
