TERRIFIC TUESDAY 5-2-17

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the new work stations we are doing.
...the work station I did today.
...what I learned about butterflies and moths--how they are similar and how they are different.
...the letters I learned and practiced writing.
...an update on our caterpillars--Monarch and Pink.

~LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
Each morning, we check on our caterpillars, Monarch and Pink, and then record on a chart which phase of the life cycle they are in--caterpillar, chrysalis or butterfly.
Below is an updated photo of our "butterfly garden".

Our butterfly garden includes "eggs on a leaf",.....

 ...caterpillars,...

 ...chrysalis and...

 ...butterflies.

 Checking on Monarch and Pink....

~WORK STATIONS~
Today we introduced and started new work stations.

At the Fine Motor Station, children complete the visual discrimination page pictured below.
At the Discovery Station, children create the life cycle of a butterfly using pasta noodles and beans.

At the Creation Station, children can create a "fan-folded" butterfly and/or a paper chain caterpillar.

At the Alphabet Station, children draw and label two pictures beginning with the short /U/ sound.

The work station in the photos below is a number line that children complete.  Working with a group of 10 numbers, children cut out the numbers and glue them on to a strip in the correct order.  We are asking children to put numbers in order up to 30, with an option of going all the way up to 100.  Of course, this task does not need to be completed in 1 day.  Children who choose to complete the number line to 100 will receive a page of games to do with their number line when bringing it home.

~HANDWRITING~
Today we learned and practiced writing the upper case letters M and N.

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was a swimming day!
