FANTASTIC FRIDAY 10-28-16

~FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
There was a great deal of fun with flubber going on in our classroom on Friday!

Andrew and Alex enjoying books in the Book Nook.
Children dipped the sticks we found on our nature hikes last week into paint to use for future activities.
We decorated our letter "M" with monkeys!

Robert enjoys building with new materials in the Construction Zone.

Anahi and Layla practice their fine motor and eye-hand coordination skills.

~SPANISH CLASS~
On Friday, Alex's mom visited our Spanish class to share about the Mexican holiday, Dia de los  Muertos (Day of the Dead).

~PUMPKIN MATH~
Children were provided with unifix cubes and instructed to estimate how many unifix cubes would be equal to the height of the pumpkin.

Each child held the pumpkin and made an estimate as to how much the pumpkin weighed.  Ms. Penney gave them a "reference" by explaining that a newborn baby weighs about 7 pounds.   Next week, we will weigh the pumpkin to determine its actual weight.

~PUMPKIN "I SPY"~
After estimating the height and weight of the pumpkin, children moved on to a sensory experience with the "insides" of a pumpkin.  Children were provided with a ziplock bag filled with the insides of a pumpkin and various Halloween objects hidden throughout.  Each time a child spied one of the Halloween objects, he/she recorded it on a recording sheet.

~NUMBER WRITING~
We put away the pencils and paper and practiced writing numbers in shaving cream!
